What to Look For In Hiring a Consultant

Consulting is an ever increasing field with no restrictions or requirement placed on those who enter it. This can have a negative impact on the consulting field overall. However, there are a few questions that should be asked when working with a new consultant. Areas consider that are critical for evaluating their expertise, include the following:

Consultant's ability to demonstrate they can be business partners working towards your goals,

An excellent reputation in their field (demonstrated through references)

Be knowledgeable in their area of practice with an in-depth understanding of the economic viability of changes recommended,

Demonstrate confidentiality and discretion (non-disclosure of proprietary information agreement, be diverse (use a variety of tools to assist the client and a wide range of experience or perspectives),

A professional approach demonstrated by a service guarantee, recognized registration such as IACET or ISO, a written code of conduct and “walking the talk”.
